Brownsboro Bearettes, Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs Head To Austin

The streets of Brownsboro may have looked a little bare Wednesday evening.

It seems the whole town headed to Austin to cheer on their Bearettes.
The Brownboro girls basketball team left for Austin early Wednesday morning.

Students and teachers from the elementary, intermediate and middle schools lined the sidewalks for the sendoff. Bearette fans, friends and family said the Bearettes are the pride of their town.

"We sold tickets out probably by about 1 o'clock yesterday," said Sandy Williams, a Bearette mom, "and we had to will call to Austin to get more tickets."

"I had a daughter to play on the 1982 state team and it was nothing but pure excitement," said Dwayne Garner. "It's like a dream come true to have a granddaughter playing 25 years later."

The Bearettes continue their quest towards the state title Thursday afternoon in the semifinals. The game in Austin at 3:30 p.m. against China Spring.

However, Brownsboro is not the only East Texas girls team in austin this week. The 1A girls Division One state championship game features Martin's Mill versus Slocum, Friday at 11 a.m.
The Lady Mustangs left for Austin Wednesday morning as well.
