Kansas Fisherman Catches Number 400 For ShareLunker Program

A fisherman from Kansas is $5,000 richer today after catching number 400. Jason Baird made the trip to Lake Amistad yesterday, located on the Mexican border and caught a 13.1 pound Big Mouth Bass. Members of the ShareLunker Program drove 895 miles to pick up the fish and bring it to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. To qualify for the program, the fish must be at least 13 pounds. Along with $400 per pound, Baird won a brand new fishing rod.

"We will hold it until we feel like its got potential for spawning for us at the fishery center," said David Campbell, ShareLunker Program Manager. "It's not unusual to see these large fish spawn 3,4,5 times in one year." After the fish is done spawning it will be taken back to lake Amistad. The fisheries center tagged the bass, so if it's caught again they will know it's already entered the ShareLunker Program.
