Tyler Celebrates Black History Month

Tyler celebrated Black History Month tonight. The Texas College Choir started off the program singing American the Beautiful. The theme for tonight's event was Working Together For More.

The Dallas ISD Superintendent made the trip to Tyler to speak tonight. Before the event he got a tour of Tyler. "You can see here in Tyler is what you see in many larger cities is divisions," said Dr. Jim Scales, Dallas ISD Superintendent. "This area is predominantly Hispanic. This area is predominantly Anglo. This area is predominantly African-American. We need to pull all of that man power we have, all the diverse skills we have, all the diverse knowledge we have, pull it together to make sure this city flourishes."

The African American Coalition of East Texas put on the program tonight. It's the event's fourth year.
