Neighbors Say New Hilton Hotel Will Invade Their Privacy

A new hotel is proposed for South Broadway in Tyler, but nearby homeowners say it will ruin their way of life.

The Hilton Gardens Inn and Suites is slated to be built on about six acres between South Broadway and Sutherland Drive, and the Tyler City Council is planning to take up the issue tomorrow morning.

Right now, homeowners are shielded from traffic noise and light by a wooded area.  But if the hotel is built, residents say there will be much more activity, and perhaps even more crime.

Carol Reynolds lives in the area.

"[Objections are] the noise factor, and the fact that there will be a lot of people in such a concentrated area, and that causes more noise, more crime, more everything," she said.

he city council will consider the plan for the new hotel Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at City Hall. Residents say they'll be there and have plenty to say to their councilmembers.
