Bush Heads Out On 3-State Tour Promoting Alternative Energy Technologies

President Bush is heading out on a three-state tour promoting technologies that he hopes will help America kick its imported-oil habit.

The tour's taking him to Wisconsin, Michigan and Colorado -- and will reprise themes from his State of the Union speech.

The first stop this morning is a Milwaukee company that's developing lithium-ion batteries for hybrid cars. Other stops include a solar power panel factory in suburban Detroit and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado.

In his State of the Union address, Bush said America's best hope for meeting its growing energy needs is through technology. He's proposing more spending and tax credits to bolster the needed research.

But Democrats deride Bush's initiatives as similar to what he's long pursued -- even as America's been hit with soaring energy prices.
