Winter Weather Causes Problems For Drivers, Travelers

The sudden cold snap that brought ice and freezing rain to Texas over the weekend was blamed for hundreds of wrecks on slick roads and overpasses. In San Antonio, the upper level of a stretch of Interstate 10 and ramps in both directions were closed much of this morning. So were several exits off Interstate 35 north of San Antonio.

Some of the people sent to help out got involved in their own accidents. In Dallas, a city spokeswoman said at least five fire trucks and ambulances were involved in accidents. Dozens of flights were canceled over the weekend at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. A spokesman for American Airlines said 85 of the Fort Worth-based carrier's flights at D.F.W. were canceled.
