Two Injured In Crash North Of Tyler Airport

Two men were hospitalized after their plane crashed north of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. According to officials, the plane is a homemade aircraft, an Express CT plane, just purchased today. The pilot was, apparently, flying it home to California.

Crews were called out to County Road 47, just off Highway 64, at around 5:15 p.m. Officials say the plane was trying to land in Tyler. Investigators say the pilot's name is Jim Roger Salmon from Fresno, California. They say both men sustained non-life threatening injuries. They were transported by ground to ETMC. By late Thursday night the passenger had already been released from the hospital.

Officials say they had to clear through a wooded area in order to get to the crash site. Tyler Police, Tyler Fire Department, Dixie Volunteer Fire Department and DPS were called out to the scene. The crash is being attributed to some sort of fuel or engine failure. The FAA is expected at the crash scene tomorrow morning to begin an investigation.
