They expect him to recover but doctors are keeping an eye on the lawyer who was shot by Vice President Cheney. They want to make sure more metal pellets don't reach othervital organs.
Harry Whittington, 78, is expected to be hospitalized in Corpus Christi, Texas, for about a week. He suffered a mild heart attack yesterday when a shotgun pellet in his chest traveled to his heart. He's reported to be in stable condition after being moved back to intensive care.
Doctors say they've decided to leave the pellet alone rather than operate to remove it. They say they're highly optimistic Whittington will recover and live a healthy life with the pellet in him. Hospital officials say they are not concerned about the other pieces of pellets that might still be in his body after Saturday's shooting accident.
They estimate the number of pellets at anywhere from six to 200.
