11 Year Old Girl Remembered By Her Classmates

When emergency crews arrived at the wreck, the scene was horrendous. Eleven year old Hallie Daugherty and her mother, Mellody were both pronnounced dead at the scene. Hallie's father, Donnie Ray, her sister, Chasity, and a friend Lacy Hierholzer were all flown to Tyler hospitals.

This morning, at Overton Elementary counselors and ministers told the 5th and 6th graders about the accident.

Julie Simms, the school counselor said, "Most of them really were in shock.  They were not prepared to hear someone their age had died. And a lot of the girls cried."

Students put up a memory wall for Hallie and her mom, and they left notes which said they were praying for everyone who was hurt. Hallie's classmates also collected her things to send back to her dad. It was a time of mourning, and a time to ask questions.

"Why is the biggest question.  Why someone who's eleven years old, and a friend to everyoe, and just a wonderful little girl, why was she taken away," Simms said.

Everyone we spoke with said the Daugherty's were a close knit family. Now, this close knit town is trying to pitch in and help.  At a local convenience store, a fund was set up to try and help with with funeral costs. The store clerk, Penny Thrasher said the community is really pulling together.

"They're all  real good customers, the mother, the father, the kids, all of them.  It's just a real sad story."

The town and the school are devastated by Hallie and Mellody's death.  Now, they're praying the other three will recovery quickly.
