COPY-No new Katrina aid in Bush budget

WASHINGTON Some Gulf Coast lawmakers apparently are not impressed with the Bush administration's new budget and the lack of new aid for Hurricane Katrina victims. The blueprint does earmark money to improve disaster response and emergency preparedness.

Senator David Vitter of Louisiana says he doubts those funds will be enough to overhaul federal programs blamed for a sluggish government response to the August hurricane

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says the whole issue of disaster recovery for the Gulf is "separate and apart" from the budget.

The 18 (b) billion dollar package for response improvements will bring federal relief funds for Katrina and Hurricane Rita to over 100 (b) billion.
