Alleged Bootlegger Arrested

Police say they've shut down a local bootlegging operation in Tyler. Authorities say they responded to the 1800 Block of West Jackson Street in West Tyler yesterday after neighbors complained of suspicious activity. When they arrived they found more than 260 cans of beer and eight quarts of liquor. Authorities say 55-year-old Curtis Martin of Tyler was taken into custody for selling alcoholic beverages in a dry area. That's a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to a $2,000 fine. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code says having more than one quart of liquor or more than 24, 12-ounce bottles of beer is enough to be charged with "possession with intent to sell".
