ETMC Hosts Women’s Heart Health Forum Feb. 15

ETMC will offer a free KnowledgeFirst forum on women’s heart health at noon Feb. 15 in the ETMC Pavilion. A cholesterol screening will be held prior to the presentation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The speaker will be Hope Short, MD, one of the ETMC First Physicians. She is a family practice physician.

“Many women don’t know the most important secret about their own hearts--heart disease is the leading cause of death in American women. One in five have some type of heart disease,” said Karen Cranford, RN, ETMC KnowledgeFirst coordinator. “Fewer than one in 10 women realize heart disease is a major killer, according to a survey by the American Heart Association.”

The ETMC forum will seek to inform women of heart disease risks. It is being conducted in support of the AHA’s Go Red for Women movement to build heart disease awareness.

“Another fact that’s unfortunately a secret to many women is that heart disease is something they need to think about early, not just in later life,” Ms. Cranford said. “Dr. Short will provide information to help women take better care of their hearts.”

KnowledgeFirst events are held in the ETMC Pavilion at 801 Clinic Drive in Tyler. Parking is available next to the Pavilion and in the Lake Street lot with complimentary shuttle service. Pre-registration is requested but not required. For more information, call HealthFirst at (800) 648-8141, and press “2”.
