Congress To Give Patriot Act Another Month

It's now up to the Senate to extend the Patriot Act.

The terror-fighting law is set to expire tomorrow.

The House has voted to give it another five weeks, until March Tenth. The extension is designed to give conservative Republicans and the White House time to work out changes designed to protect civil liberties.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner warns against playing "political games" with tools he says are needed in the war on terror.

But House Democrats want civil rights protections before renewing the law permanently. The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Congresswoman Jane Harman, says lawmakers should "extend it, mend it, but not end" the Patriot Act.
