A new "rookie" signed on at the Tyler Police Department today.
Officer Philip Johnson's new partner, Vaio, is a one-and-a-half-year-old black Labrador. Johnson's previous dog retired because of hip dysplasia. When the folks at Food Fast heard the department could not afford to replace her, they decided to purchase a drug dog, and donate it to them.
Because of the intensive training for drug dogs, they can cost between $3500 and $4500.
