East Texas Hospital Open For Surgical Training

One East Texas Hospital is now open for robotic surgical training.

On Wednesday, Mother Frances Hospital unveiled their training center and new surgical robot.

The Da Vinci System is a laparoscopic surgical robot. Surgeons are able to make more precise movements with this device.

The hospital will train surgeons how to use this new technology. Dr. William Turner, Jr. with Turner Cardiovascular Associates says, "We will be the center training facility for the surrounding five states. Physicians, students, anyone interested in using the robot."

The training will begin in the next few weeks. So far, 190 surgeries have been performed with the robot. Doctors say the robotic technology is less invasive and allows patients to heal faster.
