New Procedure For Patients Suffering From Enlarged Prostate

A new option is available in East Texas for men with an enlarged prostate.

The holmium  ablation laser removes any obstructing tissue from the bladder. Doctors say it's quick, safe and an effective outpatient procedure.

Currently, the standard procedure is invasive and requires several days in the hospital. This one takes less than an hour and the patient can go home the same day.

Dr. Clay Williams with Urology Tyler & ETMC Urology Institute says, "Most of the patients 99-100% go home the same day of the procedure usually without a catheter. So it's a big benefit in that there is no hospital stay, very little bleeding, the recovery is very quick and no catheter."

This procedure is offered at ETMC urology institute. We checked with other hospitals and they do offer similar non-invasive procedures.
