Burning Bans Temporarily Lifted For Four More Counties

Burning bans have been lifted for many thousands of East Texans -- many of whom have had trash and brush piling up for months.

In Smith, Gregg, Wood, and Nacogdoches counties, it became legal to burn outdoors Monday, but it's just a temporary lifing of the bans in those counties.  Conditions could change very quickly.

"We're still in a drought condition, but we're a little better off because the vegetation has absorbed a little more moisture. But with the wind picking up and humidity dropping, that vegetation may dry out very quickly," says Smith County Fire Marshal Jim Seaton.

Burning bans were dropped last week for Franklin, Morris, Marion, Cass, Panola, and Shelby Counties.
