Henderson's Search Continues, John King To Stay In Longview

A done deal, apparently wasn't a done deal after all. Henderson's search for a new head football coach continues, as Lobos Coach John King decided today to stay in Longview. After two days of discussions, King was scheduled to join Henderson ISD Superintendent Tommy Alexander in Henderson today, to tour the facilities, meet with board members, and apparently finalize negotiations. But Alexander said, King canceled his trip to Henderson this morning, to instead, meet with Longview Superintendent Dr. Dana Marable. King must have heard something he liked in that meeting, because afterwards, he told Alexander he was staying in Longview.

"When you go after a name coach with a high profile, people don't want to lose him," said Alexander.

So, a day after Superintendent Alexander seemed confidant he had a new coach, he must now keep going with his search. But, this time, Alexander is prepared. He made some inquiries with other coaches this week just in case, and will attempt to work something out this weekend. As a result, Monday's school board meeting remains scheduled, with the possibility of a coaching recommendation.

"I want to leave everything in place," Alexander said, "and see what happens in the next 48 hours."
