East Texas Community Comes Together For Woman Battling Breast Cancer

It's a situation many East Texas families are forced to deal with, no medical insurance. For one East Texan, her money had run out, but the need for medical treatment was still there. Now her friends are stepping in to help.

Three and a half years ago, doctors diagnosed Marcie Kerby, a mother of four, with breast cancer.

"When I was first diagnosed I didn't know what to do," said Marcie Kerby. "I knew we didn't have insurance. I got quotes on prices, all the testing that I needed to go through and we just didn't have the funds, so I chose to go the natural route." "I told her that I couldn't go through the chemo for her, but I could do everything else," said Tammy Bain, Marcie's friend. Her friends made bracelets that say "Pray for Marcie". They also planned a benefit to raise money to help pay

"Marcie has touched so many lives through singing," said Frazier. "She's an excellent pianist and she's just personable and fun

"She's one of my role models and I'm not just saying that," said Bain. "If I had to pick a hero, she would be my hero." All Marcie and her family ca

"There's nothing to compare with a church family," said Johnny Kerby, Marcie's husband. "It's almost thicker than blood and I just want them to know that I appreciate it and hope someday that I can be there for them as well." The benefit for Marcie is next Saturday, February 4th at 5:00 p.m. It will be held at the Reilly Springs Community Center. There will be a chili-stew dinner, silent auction and gospel singing. All proceeds will go towards Marcie's medical costs. For more information on Marcie Kerby and how you can help go to the homepage and click on the Know More 7 link on the left side of the page.
