East Texas Family Receives $2,000.00 Electric Bill

Many East Texans are apprehensive about opening their electric bill. Imagine opening it and seeing it had increased by a thousand percent. The Pettigrew's electric bill from Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association usually runs about $200.00. This month it was more than $2,000.00 and if they don't pay by tomorrow their electricity could be turned off. With three small grandchildren living in their home, the Pettigrew don't know what they are going to do.

"There's no way nobody can burn that much electricity," said Sheila Pettigrew. "I mean we're not rich, but a rich man's light bill is not that high for one month. It's ridiculous." The electric company says there is something in the Pettigrew's house that is using all that electricity. It told the family to have their house checked. The Pettigrew's say they have had two electricians inspect their house. They did not find anything wrong.
