Gregg County Fire Marshals Downplay Rain

Although the rain has been steady for a long period, Gregg County fire marshals it will take a lot more before any burn bans will be lifted. Officials say the public should not be too optimistic about recent rain, because the danger will remain until rain levels return to normal.

"Be very cautious right now. I mean, this is one of those things every body sees. Yes we got two inches of rain. We can go back to doing things we were doing before for a very short duration of time before things go back to the way they were. We need a good soaking rain for a two-week period to get us anywhere near where we were before," said Longview Assistant Fire Marshal Mark Moore.

Moore says that regardless of the rain, burn bans will remain in effect in all counties until further notice. He says there is absolutely no burning anytime within city limits.
