Blue Ribbon Awards Honor Two Restaurants

Currents Restaurant, tucked away on East 2nd St. in the hospital district of Tyler, serves French and American cuisine.

"All our customers are our guests, and when they come in here, it's like coming into our home. We want to make sure they're very well taken care of, and have a good experience here," says co-owner Robert Sims.

Open for lunch and dinner, the kitchen goes from quiet to busy in a moment's notice.

"Our chef, Julie Baxter -- she began her career in the military, so that gives a great foundation for the restaurant business. She has strict procedures that [employees] follow every day," Sims says.

For that, they get the Blue Ribbon.

Tucked into the high-rise buildings downtown, Mr. B's Sandwiches. Hot lunches, and even breakfast has been a routine for many for years.

Louise Blackburn, aka Mrs. B, is the owner.

"Cleanliness, as they say, is next to Godliness.  And we sure want our customers to have the best, and we have the best customers in the world come into Mr. B's," Louise said.

Louise says her employees do their best with the available space, and the health inspector hasn't found otherwise in a long time.

"We'd love to have more space, but these walls won't budge, but we're looking trying to find a way to put in pizza -- pizza by the slice," she added.

Louise says folks still walk by and despite the sign, have never come in.

"We've been here almost 14 years and [new customers] say, we didn't know you were here! They do now."
