Alito Enters Day 2 Of Questioning

It's going to be another day of questions about such issues as executive power for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. He spent yesterday giving carefully worded answers to what one lawmaker said was more than 200 questions.

Alito appears to be satisfying Senate Republicans while frustrating Democrats. Several Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee say they saw no reason not to vote to confirm him. Democrats on the panel take a different view. They say his answers haven't provided any new information about his views on key issues.

Senior Democrat Patrick Leahy says Alito's answers have been "vague" and "inconsistent." Abortion was a main focal point yesterday. Alito said that if confirmed he would approach abortion cases that came before the high court "with an open mind."
