Mobile Home Fire Kills Five Family Members

Five people were killed last night including four children when their mobile home caught on fire. The fire happened around 11:30 p.m. at a home along the Harrison County-Marion County line a few miles southeast of Ore City. Neighbors say they heard an explosion and the fire alarm did go off.

Two people in the home at the time of the fire did survive. The mother of the children is at a local hospital. The other survivor, three-year-old C. J. Brown, is at a Shreveport burn center. He was saved by a family member.

Family member Tamila Sayles said, "I noticed he wasn't breathing, so I layed him down and gave him mouth to mouth. I covered him up and that's when the ambulance came."

Harrison County Fire Marshal Dennis Engdahl said the fire apparently started in a living room couch, but no cause has been determined.

Justice of the Peace Melba Oney identifies the dead as 75-year-old Laura Patton and two of her grandchildren, four-year-old Da'Marcus King and eleven-year-old Destiny Graham. Two other children died at hospitals a short time later. She identified them as 12-year-old Te'Shareme Davison and four-year-old Nathaniel Brown.
