New Regulations For Cosmetologists And Barbers

A sigh of relief for some East Texas cosmetologists and barbers. A public meeting was held on Monday in Tyler to propose the new Texas Rules and Regulations for cosmetologists and barbers.

The regulations will go into effect on March 1st. Some of the changes include: licensing, inspections and sanitation issues.

Brian Francis, Deputy Executive Director of Texas Deparment of Licensing and Regulation says, "We are getting great comments that are going to help us in be more effective and more consistence in the way we regulate this industry."

Shelia Kennedy, Hair Stylist at Creative Look Salon says, "The changes are very good. We need changes, we always have room to improve."

Some more good news for stylists and barbers. Under the new rules, they can now take their practical exam in eight locations, instead of just one in Austin.
