Kinne Named National Coach Of The Year

SAN ANTONIO – Sportslink, Inc., and Adams USA have announced Canton High School Head Coach Gary Joe Kinne as the Adams USA National Head Coach of the Year Award. The award honors the top prep football coach in the country that has not only won on the field, but also rewards the coach deemed to be the best in the country in leading his team as a positive influence to the youth of America.

The Adams USA National Head Coach of the Year Award was bestowed upon Kinne, nation’s top football head coach at the 2006 Boone Yoast BBQ in San Antonio. The ceremony took place two days before the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, an annual game that features 78 of America’s top high school football seniors.

Kinne made headlines last April when he was confronted and then shot, allegedly, by a disgruntled parent. Following a stint in the hospital and a valiant recovery, the coach was able to lead his team to the best record in school history (11-2) and the state quarterfinals.

Coaches were nominated by their peers from across the country. Over 12,000 coaches were reached out to for their nomination. The winner was then pulled from the list of finalists chosen by the selection committee made up of representatives from Adams USA and Sportslink, Inc.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl, now in its sixth year, features the top high school football players in the country and will be aired live on NBC on January 7, 2006 at Noon CST. The classic East vs. West match-up features the elite college prospects in the country and has introduced the likes of Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush (USC) and runner-up and National Champion Vince Young (Texas). Other names to play in the game include Chris Leak (Florida), Teddy Ginn (Ohio State) and Chad Henne (Michigan).
