Longhorns Hook National Title

Texas is celebrating its fourth national championship in football and the Longhorns have Vince Young to thank for their first title since 1970.

Young put on a tremendous individual show in leading Texas to a stunning 41 to 38 upset of Southern California in a thrilling Rose Bowl. The electrifying Young stole the show by accounting for a Rose Bowl record 467 total yards, 199 rushing and 268 passing. He won the game by scrambling eight yards on fourth down for the winning TD with 19 seconds left to end USC's 34 game winning streak and its bid for an unprecedented third straight national championship.

Young ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to erase USC's 38 to 26 fourth quarter lead. USC Coach Pete Carroll called it the greatest individual performance he has ever seen against one of his teams.

The Trojans' high-powered offense led by Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and fellow running back LenDale White combined for four TD's. But Bush was held to 82 yards and one score. Texas has won 20 straight games.

Young is 30 and 2 as starting Quarterback for the Longhorns. He now must decide whether to return to Texas for a senior season or enter the NFL draft.
