Tyler ISD TAKS Scores Are In

The TAKS test scores are in. Tyler Independent School District scores did improve. However, the district did not meet the overall state average.

In reading, TISD improved by 2 percent from 79% to 81%. The state average for 2005 is 83%. Students improved in math as well, from 65% to 69%, however the state average is 72%.

In writing and social studies the scores remained the same as last year. The biggest improvement was in science, up by 9%. Last year's score was 52% and they increased to 61%.

Dr. David Simmons, Superintendent of Tyler ISD says, "We have some areas that are below. We are focusing on those but overall our district compares very well to the state and region."

Dr. Simmons says the district will be working on staff development and making parents aware of the challenges that students face.
