Five East Texas fire departments battled a massive fire north of Lindale. The Smith County Fire Marshal's Office says a total of 105 acres were burned.
It started Tuesday afternoon, between County Roads 431 and 482. That's just north of the Lindale City limits. Three homes were threatened by the fire, but only a shed burned down. Officials say the fire started when some people were welding in a pasture.
Connie Wasson, Assistant Smith County Fire Marshal says the men will be facing a fine. "Reckless destruction of property this is a Class C Misdemeanor of up to $500.00 for every property crossed. He is also liable for all the property loss to the shed and all of his equipment inside, riding lawn mower and tiller. He is liable for all of his damages also," says Wasson.
Officials were able to contain the fire and put the fire out.
