On January 3rd, 1930 an East Texas couple got married in the little town of Colfex, Texas. Today, Olen and Gladys Cantrell celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Olen Cantrell says his secret to a long marriage is to be honest, humble and love one another through everything. The Cantrell's lived in Van before moving into Pinecrest Nursing Home only three months ago. Olen was a preacher for many years and Gladys a housewife. They had two children who were there to celebrate their parents marriage.
"There was a lot of love, a lot of joy," said Jimmy Cantrell, their son. "Times were not always real easy. We never had a lot, but that wasn't the most important thing. What was most important was the love we felt and the encouragement we received through life."
"Mom and Dad have taken care of use through all the years and it's been a blessing to have been apart of their lives now and being able to care for them as much as we can," said Maxine Green, their daughter. The Cantrell's have nine grandchildren and three great great grandchildren who were also there to help them celebrate.
