Grass Fire Breaks Out In Cherokee County, Lindale

Even with all the warnings and outdoor burning bans, a Cherokee County man took a chance today. He's now accused of burning up 60 acres. A homeowner was ticketed this afternoon for burning trash north of FM 855 near Mount Selman. It quickly got out of control and even spread over a county road.

Volunteer firefighters on the scene tell us the fire got really close to some homes. It singed a mobile home. It took about two hours to control and finally extinguish.

Just after that fire began, another fire broke out in Lindale about one mile north of I-20. It's estimated at this time the fire burned about 20 acres. It got close to a neighborhood, but fortunately, did not threaten any homes. Volunteer firefighters are not sure at this time how the fire started.
