Taking a child out of a broken home is never easy. That's why the Tyler Police Department is doing something very special, for children who may have had bad experiences in the past, with police. Today, foster children from the Bair Foundation watched Santa roll in a SWAT van along with several officers. The officers donated 27 bikes, one for each child to take home. Last year only members of the Police Bicycle Unit got involved, but thanks to the help of the entire department more children got bikes this year.
"I put the word out that we were going to sponsor this and provide the bikes for the Bair Foundation, and the officers in the police department all joined in and started pitching in donations and we were able to raise enough to purchase these bicycles," said Sergeant David Hall, Tyler Police Department. Tyler Police also donated clothes and toys for the children.
