Juror Pay Set To Increase

Starting next year, you could get more money when you serve jury duty. The Texas legislature voted to allow jurors a minimum of $40 per day, starting on the second day of jury service. The previous pay was $6.

This morning, Smith County commissioners adopted the resolution, which will take effect January 1st. Smith County Judge Becky Dempsey says the increase may draw people to participate. "I suspect that's going to drastically improve the participation of jury service that we see in Smith County as well as counties across the state," she said.

The legislature says an additional criminal fee that will be collected will cover the increased juror pay.
