Space Heaters

Some East Texans wanting to cut down on energy costs are turning on their space heaters. As you know, the heaters may keep you warm but could also be dangerous.

Officials recommend keeping the heaters at least three feet away for curtains or any type of cloth material. They also warn against putting the heater directly on top of carpet.

James Orten, Department Manager of Lowe's says, "If you are putting it on carpet my suggestion is buy a piece of ceramic tile for a couple of dollars and place the heater on top of the tile." On the question of children, James Orten was pretty clear; saying they are never safe for use around small children.

Karolyn Davis, reporting.
