Judge Orders Mediation With CenterPoint Energy

An East Texas judge ordered CenterPoint Energy to mediate with cities in its East Texas division. The order comes in response to a lawsuit filed by the city of Crockett. They are just one of many towns opposing CenterPoint's natural gas rate increases.

Tyler will be part of the mediation. Mayor Joey Seeber thinks this is little more than standard procedure. "There's always a possibility, in mediation, that both parties get all of their issues resolved. There's so many issues between the City of Tyler and CenterPoint, that I don't expect there's going to be any great revelation or settlement that will come out of this mediation," said Seeber.

The two topics of mediation will be whether CenterPoint Energy gave proper notice of its rate increase, and whether they gave cities the kind of information needed to make good decisions about the rate cases.
