Burglary Ring Broken Up

Seven men are in the Rusk County jail accused of breaking into homes all over East Texas.

Johnny Davidson, Sergeant Investigator at Rusk County Sheriff's Office says, "Beginning last Friday we have been accumulating this information and sharing that information with other agencies." Johnny Davidson an investigator in Rusk County and says law enforcement in three counties; sharing information, lead to the arrests of seven thieves.

Officials recovered more than 20 rifles and hand guns, jewelry, coins, a TV and a safe. Davidson says, "These individuals have been doing burglaries home burglaries in Cherokee, Rusk and Panola County and as this investigation continues we hope it leads to recovering other property."

Investigators believe this ring of criminals were working together. One group would steal the property while the other group would sell or trade the property for drugs. "Property is traded for narcotics. The burglar is not necessarily who they catch when they have the property and that's what we are trying to tie together. I feel like more people will come to jail," says Davidson.

Officials are looking through their reports to identify the recovered items and return them to their rightful owner.

Investigators say they are hoping to arrest up to 10 more people who are involved in this burglary ring. They also want to remind you, taking pictures or writing down the serial number of your property will help them return stolen property to you if recovered.

Karolyn Davis, reporting.
