Neighbors Catch Three Burglars In The Act

It was a wild afternoon in one East Texas neighborhood. Neighbors caught three burglars in the act. It happened around 1:30 p.m. in Tyler, at a home on Jeffery Drive.

What seemed like a normal afternoon soon changed when 13-year-old Ashley Arnold noticed an unusual pick-up in her neighbors driveway.

"I was sitting in the kitchen and at first when I saw the truck drive up I actually thought it was my friend," said Ashley Arnold, a neighbor who witnessed the burglary. Then, three men she didn't know got out of the car.

"They went around back, two guys went back there and they were back there for like 15 minutes." Another neighbor noticed the unusual activity. He called the home owner to tell her what was going on at her house.

"I put on my emergency lights and sped over here and when I found out they were in my driveway, I pulled up behind and tried to get their license plate number, so that we could catch them," said Esmeralda Williams, home owner. That's exactly what happened. As the burglars sped off through the front yard they popped a tire and eventually came to a stop.

"We want to thank the neighbor for being very alert, contacting the police department because that's what it takes, a neighbor watching out for other neighbors," said Officer Don Martin, Tyler Police Department. Williams had just one thing to say.

"Thank you," said Williams. "I'm just absolutely thrilled. Thank you Ashley and thank you Mike." Police were able to recover jewelry, a DVD player and a package from the suspects car. Police say 17-year-old Pedro Castillo of Tyler and two juveniles will be charged with Burglary of Habitation. Police say, they believe these burglars were also responsible for the burglary at another Tyler house. This one on Devonshire Drive.
