A Longview Man Is In Custody After A Standoff With S.W.A.T. Officers

A Longview man is in custody after a standoff with S.W.A.T. officers this afternoon. Police say it began last night when 43-year-old Calvin Aaron's ex-wife went over to his home to talk to their son.

Aaron then reportedly became violent and pistol whipped her. Police say Aaron then held his ex-wife hostage overnight at the home in the 1900 block of Toler Road.

This morning police say the woman's daughters took her from the house and went to police. At around 1:00 p.m., officers arrived to arrest him, but Aaron refused to come out.

It took about an hour to get Aaron out of the house. Shortly after arriving, police discovered Aaron was not alone in the house. His roommate was in there as well. Both refused to leave the house when police first arrived.

Police say Aaron did have a gun. That's why they sent their swat team. Crisis negotiators threw a phone in the house for Aaron to answer, but he would not respond.

After that, the S.W.A.T. team fired several tear gas canisters into the back of the house, hoping Aaron would come out the front door. That worked and shortly before 2:00 p.m., both Aaron and the roommate surrendered.

Police say the ex-wife is in a local hospital being treated.

Down the street from Aaron's house is Primary Colors Preschool. The preschool says it did lock down when it heard about the stand off, but did not evacuate. Everyone is doing fine.
