Habitat For Humanity Dedicates Two Homes

Habitat For Humanity dedicated two houses in Tyler today.

Janet Valle is one of the newest homeowners. She put in nearly 400 hours of sweat equity. Friends, family and volunteers that helped build the house were all in attendance.

"To me, it's like I'm finally having some stability in my life, and providing some stability for my daughter, by having our own home. You know, being a single mom, it's not always easy. Having my own home is like a dream," Valle said.

Minutes later, a second dedication took place down the street.

Erica Harper put in more than 400 hours building her home. She says her oldest son gave her a hard time about the house at first, but then he became a huge help in getting the house finished.

"Once he came out, and he started seeing a lot of other people start coming out, it changed his heart. He was up when I would get off work, at seven in the morning. He would be up waiting for me," Harper said.

Both families will be in their new homes before Christmas.

Two other families should have had a new home for the holidays, as well. However, a $25,000 budget shortfall, meant their home construction would have to be delayed.
