Basic Sugar Cookies

The classic sugar cookie for holiday decorating!

Sugar Cookies

2 sticks softened butter

1 1/4 cups of sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon of vanilla, or other flavoring

3 cups flour

Mix all ingredients except flour, thoroughly. Add flour, 1 cup at a time and mix well. No need to refrigerate. Can be used immediately. Roll out 1/4" thick and cut with your favorite cookie cutters. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes or until light brown around the edges. Cool completely before frosting.

Royal Icing

6 tablespoons warm water

3 tablespoons of Wilton Brand Meringue Powder (can be found at Walmart)

1 pound box of powdered sugar

You may add 1 teaspoon of your favorite flavoring, if desired

Beat with mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Frosting should be light and fluffy. Keep frosting and tools covered with damp towel to keep frosting from drying out during use.
