Freedom Fighter: William Don Carlos

Airplanes have been a passion with William Don Carlos since his days as a waist gunner in World War Two.   He flew thirty missions over Germany during 1944 with two of them flown on the same day, June 6,1944, D-Day. After the war, Don Carlos worked for American Aailines for thirty years. Now in retirement, he still stays close to planes at the Gladewater Airport. As an "A-I", or authorized inspector, Don Carlos inspects planes for safety, but mostly, he says, he just hangs out at the airport to be with friends and airplanes.
