Stolen Car Chase Ends In Tyler

Tyler Police, D-P-S, and the Smith County Sheriff's Office were called out last night to stop a man driving a stolen car.

It began yesterday when an S-U-V was stolen in Palestine.

Later, the accused car thief was in the Gallion area of Smith County near North Tyler, where he crashed the stolen S-U-V.

A good samaritan then stopped in an effort to help, and the suspect stole his car.

That car's owner called 9-11, and Sheriff's Deputies, after locating the stolen car, gave chase, t

aking them from Loop 323 to Highway 271, going south toward the intersection of 5th and Beckham where officers were able to stop the car.

They then had to break out the car's windows to get the suspect out

He was taken into custody, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felony evasion.

According to officials, more charges could soon be filed.
