Mall Shooting Suspect Surrenders

Police say a 20 year old gunman who opened fire inside a busy Washington state shopping mall, wounding at least six people, has an extensive juvenile criminal history.

Police allege the suspect took three other people hostage in a music store at the Tacoma Mall before he surrendered to a SWAT team. Witnesses described seeing a clean-cut man walking backward through the mall, firing a rifle, as shoppers and store clerks scrambled for cover. At least six people were injured, one critically.

The Seattle Times and the Tacoma News Tribune report Dominick Maldonado was booked into the Pierce County Jail on six counts of assault and three counts of kidnapping. He's being held on $450,000 dollars bail. The Times reports court records show convictions for burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools.
