An East Texas non-profit wants to make sure you know, they are not CASA. Officials from the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County say the confusion over their similar names and purposes is out of hand. Both organizations do work with children who are victims of abuse. The difference is all in which court they serve. Carol Langston, Executive Director of Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County says, "We are in the adult criminal justice system. We are working with the criminal courts of Judge Skeen, Judge Kent, Judge Russell and CASA works more in the family courts with Judge Clark."
Langston says they have seen a significant decrease of financial support since the controversy with CASA began.
