Tyler's Corey Mayfield Playing For Desperados

Over the weekend the Dallas Desperados held open tryouts, and one desperado is a familiar face to East Texas.
Former Robert E. Lee Red Raider and NFL player, Corey Mayfield.
The Tyler native is now with the Dallas Desperados. After graduating from REL, Corey went on to play ball for Oklahoma and was drafted by the 49ers. He then played for Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, the XFL and now in the AFL. Corey kept an eye on desperados hopefuls but stopped to talk to us about what he said has been an amazing journey.
"Words can't explain," he said. "Being a little country boy coming from Tyler, the Rose capital of the nation, and being apart of something so great as the SFL and an organization like the Desperados, it's exceptional.
The Desperados kick off their season January 29 at the American Airlines Center.

    Ever heard the saying, "treat yourself"? Well today was the perfect day to do it, because two East Texas teams paired up with local Dairy Queens to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.  Serving guest at the drive-thru and enjoying some ice-cream themselves, John Tyler Lions and Tyler Lee Red Raiders football took part in Miracle Treat Day.  A five dollar donation was worth a small blizzard.
