An escaped convicted killer captured outside a Louisiana liquor store is scheduled to appear in court today in Shreveport.
Charles Victor Thompson, a death row inmate who slipped out of the Harris County Jail Thursday wearing street clothes, was arrested last night while talking on a pay phone outside a Shreveport liquor store. Authorities said Thompson appeared intoxicated.
Marianne Matus with the U.S. Marshals Service in Houston said when an officer approached Thompson and asked his name, he said, "You know who I am."
The 35-year-old Thompson was convicted in 1999 for the shooting deaths a year earlier of his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. Using a falsified ID badge, Thompson got past at least four jail employees and walked out of the building.
