Traffic Stop Leads To Search

A traffic stop led to a massive search this morning. Authorities say a DPS trooper tried to stop a vehicle over for speeding at around 8:15 a.m. on Highway 64 East. DPS says the man pulled over somewhere between County Road 210 and 219, then he ran into a wooded area.

Smith County Sheriff's Deputies and search dogs joined DPS in the search for nearly three hours, but were not able to find him. Officials say they found a box the man tossed out of the car, which contained two handguns and drug paraphernalia. Inside the vehicle, officials say they found a small amount of narcotics.

The man is described as a white male with long blonde hair. Authorities say the car he was driving had fake tags and the registration was from Missouri.
