Tyler Police Department Gives To United Way

The Tyler Police Department gave a special gift to the United Way this morning, a check for $10,300.00. For the past three weeks, the police department collected money from its employees, adding a friendly competition to see what department could raise the most. This year's gift to the United Way more than tripled the amount Tyler police collected last year.

"This is that extra step that we can give back to the community, especially for United Way who does so much in our community," said Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle.  "We rely on many agencies for help and assistance, so this is an extra step we as part of the men and women of the police department can give back and make a difference." The United Way serves 25 different agencies in East Texas.
