Gilmer Yamboree Holds Annual Parade

It's become a tourist attraction that brings visitors to East Texas from all over the nation, the East Texas Yamboree. The Yamboree has become one of the landmark events of each fall in our region.

The 68th Annual Yamboree Parade was held today through the streets of Gilmer, as thousands packed the streets near the downtown Gilmer square for the annual queen's parade. There were arching bands from all over Upshur County, floats and classic cars. Some visitors come from as far away as Illinois and Ohio to attend each year.

"I guess its just a place for people to come and visit and have fun. I like to have fun," said Ohio visitor, Evelyn Price.

" It's an event where you can bring your kids and let them run around for a couple of hours," said Mount Pleasant visitor, Stacy Williams.

Organizers expect that more than 70,000 people will have visited the Yamboree in the last two days.
