REL And John Tyler To Meet In District Showdown

They have both brought the state title to the city of Tyler. Both at some time have dominated high school football.
This Friday, both have something to prove: Robert E. Lee versus John Tyler.
It's a rivalry that began 47 years ago. However, for the first time in years, Friday's game has little to do with history and everything to do with the playoffs.
"Coach Brooks told us yesterday it was all for the marbles, it's win or go home," said John Tyler wide receiver, Charles Arps. "So we have to do it."
John Tyler is 3-0 in district. A win Friday night would seal a playoff spot and their first win against Lee in their past eight meetings. A fact the Lions have not forgotten.
"Ever since I've been at John Tyler, it's been on my mind," said Lion's Quarterback Kerry Maddox.
"A whole lot of people, teachers, outsiders say we need to beat Lee."
The defending state champs are 1-2 in district. A win would help keep their playoff hopes alive. "Everyone we play, thinks we are the state champs and play harder," said REL running back Jason Williams, "and we have to step up and play."
"You see students in the hall, like man, you got to win Friday, and I'm like yeah, we're going to," said REL linebacker Matt Uzzell.
REL quarterback Preston Hill will be back after games missed with a sprained knee.
"If I weren't a hundred percent or ready to go, I wouldn't be out here," Hill said. "I practiced all week and I feel like I'm ready to go out there and win."
One-hundred percent is what both teams vow to give in their performances Friday night. Each team said this is the one they've been waiting for.
"It's a must win game," said Jason Williams. "We have to have this win, they have to have it. The atmosphere is going to be wild."
"We are fighting for a playoff spot," said Kerry Maddox, "and just to regain our respect."
The game is set for 7:30 PM at Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium.
